Trends: Spring 2015

I usually don't pay attention to trends, but this year, I actually really like them!
One of my favorite looks this season is the a white outfit. I love monochromatic ensembles, so this is a look I definitely want to try. The great thing about sticking to one color is that you can play with different textures and fabrics. I personally like the way this looks with eyelet, lace, cotton poplin, and chiffon mixed together. It's light, airy, and almost Virgin Suicides-esque.

Another trend I'm all for is the 1970s. A great example of this trend is Michael Kors' Resort 2015 collection. He used a lot of lace, tie-dyed ultra suede, and peasant shirts. Another trend goes hand-in-hand with the 70s, and that is the natural hair and natural makeup. I usually don't wear makeup to school, so it's great to know that it's "high fashion" now!

To master this no-makeup makeup, channel your inner J. Crew model and really pay close attention to your skin. When you don't wear makeup, your skin really is the center of the look, so it should be dewy and radiant. I like to wash my face every day with a simple liquid face wash, and twice a week I use a purifying clay face mask. Then, I always moisturize with a light face cream and apply an eye cream. You can easily find these products at the drug store. You don't have to splurge to get great results!

If you feel naked sans makeup, bright lips are a big look this spring. Just make sure to keep the rest of your face clear and simple to really make the lip stand out.

Chanel Couture Show: Spring 2015

When I first saw the Chanel Couture collection on Instagram, I knew I was in love. This collection has it all: sequins, flowers, beads, pastels, brights. It's times like these when I wished I was Anna Wintour and could just ask to have one of the pink chiffon dresses or the blooming, floral cropped jacket. If I had one of these pieces, I honestly don't think I would ever take it off!
For those of you who have not seen the show, here it is...

Being couture, you have to realize that each piece is one of a kind, and was hand embroidered by an amazing team. I feel like the people behind-the-scences don't get enough credit for the wonderful work they do, so I was really excited to see that Chanel posted a video of the creation process. If you only have time to watch one of these videos, I would watch this one. It is amazing to think that real people hand embroidered all of these fabrics. Here is that video...

I have so much respect for the people who make these garments. They are so skilled and deserve some praise!
Here are some of my favorite looks from the show...

Movie Night: A Playlist

Here's a playlist I made that was inspired by some of my favorite movies! (I recently learned to scan collages onto my computer, so I thought I'd have a little fun with that). I love the way that Wes Anderson or Sophia Coppola movies look. They always have a pink undertone and a dreamy blur. I'm  hoping to do a post of my take on some of these movies (modern Marie Antoinette, modern Margot Tenenbaum...) soon, but until then here are some that I would suggest: Marie Antoinette, The Virgin Suicides (both done by Sophia Coppola), Moonrise Kingdom, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Grand Budapest Hotel (all Wes Anderson)... That should be enough to get started!

P.S. all of these songs are available on Spotify...
